Whether you work in aerospace, medical, automotive, bicycle or any other high-precision industry, better accuracy and more efficient output are the goal we share. The holder is the last link in the accuracy chain: however good the spindle and however sharp the tool, the force still has to pass through the holder to reach the cutting edge, and the holder's run-out, clamping force and damping characteristics decide surface finish, tool life and how deep you can cut. The spindle interface is normally set by the machine rather than chosen with the holder. BT uses a 7:24 taper located on the taper face alone — the most widely used, with the easiest spare-part supply. HSK is a 1:10 hollow short taper contacting on both the taper and the face, which gives better repeatability at high speed. BBT adds face-and-taper contact to the 7:24 taper, so an existing BT machine can also benefit from face contact. A hydraulic holder uses oil pressure to expand a thin-walled sleeve that grips the shank evenly, giving low run-out and good damping, with a clear benefit to surface finish and tool life; a tool change needs only one wrench. Mongtec BT and HSK hydraulic holders hold accuracy to 0.003 mm. Where extremely high clamping force is needed for heavy cutting, shrink-fit or another clamping method should be evaluated.
